90th PGA CHAMPIONSHIP AT OAKLAND HILLS

Opening-round
play was suspended at 5:33 p.m. EDT today at the 90th
PGA Championship, due to inclement weather in the
Bloomfield Township, Mich. area. Lightning and rain kept
78 players off the course until the round was resumed at
6:58 p.m. Play was then called again due to darkness at
8:39 p.m., with 18 players on the course.
A total of 24 players will begin completion of their
first round at 8 a.m. EDT Friday (Aug. 8). The second
round is scheduled to begin as planned, at 7:30 a.m.
EDT.

Jay
Haas earned his way into the PGA Championship field this
week by winning the 69th Senior PGA Championship in May
at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. Haas also
won the 2006 Senior PGA Championship and later that year
made the cut in the PGA Championship at Medinah (Ill.)
Country Club.
The purse for the 90th PGA Championship is $7.5 million,
up from $7 million last year at Southern Hills Country
Club in Tulsa, Okla. The Champion will receive $1.35
million.

TOWNSHIP – Due to demand, The PGA of America has now made a
limited number of Daily Ground Tickets available for the
90th PGA Championship, Aug. 4-10, at Oakland Hills Country
Club in Bloomfield Township, Mich. Daily tickets go on sale
today at a price of $85 for the first two Championship
rounds (Thursday and Friday) and $125 for Saturday and
Sunday rounds. Up until now, golf fans were only able to
purchase weekly passes to the event.

article, the Corporate Hospitality Suites at this year’s
PGA Championship on the hallowed grounds of Oakland
Hills Country Club are sold out. All 39 “Chalets” on the
course and 5 private hospitality rooms inside the
clubhouse have been taken.
