Detroit RiverFront Conservancy's 3rd Annual Shimmer on the River Fundraiser to be held Sept, 5

DETROIT – Experience the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy’s largest fundraising celebration of the year, Shimmer on the River, with its new theme showcasing nature’s elements through extraordinary entertainment and exquisite eats while overlooking the Detroit River, on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 5 p.m. to midnight. This magical night, taking place in the unique atmosphere of the Roostertail, is expected to attract hundreds of guests with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Conservancy, which raises 100 percent of the funds needed for the continued development of the Detroit Riverfront.

The Roostertail – situated along the riverfront with spectacular views of the Detroit River – will be transformed into an intimate party setting providing guests with a night to remember at one of Detroit’s favorite entertainment spots. Guests will marvel at the décor and enjoy a strolling dinner inspired by the four elements – Water, Earth, Fire and Air. The soulful sounds of Detroit rhythm and blues singer, Thornetta Davis, will fill the air providing the perfect soundtrack to dance along the river. In addition, the Conservancy will honor Peter Karmanos, Jr., Executive Chairman of the Board, Compuware, during a brief ceremony for his strong commitment to the transformation of the Detroit Riverfront.

“Our beautiful Detroit Riverfront is a remarkable asset to our city and region and its transformation is a stunning example of what the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and its partners have made possible," said Sandy Pierce, Honorary Co-Chair of Shimmer on the River along with her husband, Tom Pierce. “Tom and I are honored to be a part of Shimmer on the River to benefit the Conservancy and thank all of the generous supporters of this event."

A VIP ticket allows guests admission to an intimate pre-event cocktail reception and the chance to mingle with the honored guests and sponsors prior to the party.

A range of tickets are now on sale for this spectacular evening including: VIP Tickets, $250 each, includes admission at 5 p.m. to the pre-event cocktail reception; General Admission, $150 each, includes admission at 6 p.m.; and Late Night, $75 each, includes admission at 9 p.m. All guests receive complimentary valet parking. Tickets for Shimmer on the River may be purchased at www.ShimmerOnTheRiver.com or 313-566-8206.

This year, the honorary co-chairs are Sandy & Tom Pierce and the Conservancy is pleased to honor the 2012 riverfront champion, Peter Karmanos, Jr.

The non-profit Detroit RiverFront Conservancy was formed as a public-private partnership in early 2003 with the mission of developing public access on the Detroit Riverfront and serving as an anchor for economic development. The completed project will span five-and-a-half miles of riverfront property, from the Ambassador Bridge to Gabriel Richard Park, just east of the MacArthur Bridge to Belle Isle, and will include a continuous RiverWalk along with public parks, pavilions and plazas and green spaces. Currently, three miles of east riverfront are complete and open to the public. The next phase of construction, which will allow for the completion of the east riverfront project, is currently underway. The Conservancy is responsible for construction and the perpetual operations, maintenance, security and programming of the Detroit Riverfront and the Dequindre Cut Greenway.
