TROY, MI
- During
a Mitt
Romney
fundraiser
at the
Marriott
Hotel in
Troy
Wednesday
(June
20) more
than 200
Good
Jobs Now
supporters
teamed
up with
members
of the
AFL-CIO
union
protesting
against
the
presidential
candidate's
proposed
policies.
The
nonprofit
organization
and
union
alike
believe
that
Romney
isn’t
the
right
choice
for
president,
and are
questioning
whether
he could
truly
run a
country
that
benefits
the
majority--working-
and
middle-class
Americans.
“He has
no
history
of
showing
he knows
how to
create
jobs; he
isn't
what
this
country
needs,”
said
Junius
Howard,
a Good
Jobs Now
supporter.
“Romney
is for
the
wealthy,
not the
middle
class,
which
represents
America.”
Romney
has
experienced
backlash
recently
at
protests
during
his bus
stop
tour
through
Michigan.
Many are
frustrated
with the
public
knowledge
that he
pays far
less in
taxes
than the
average
working
person,
and that
many of
his jobs
only
offer
minimum
wage--$7.25
an hour
or
$15,000
a year.
Another
Good
Jobs
supporter,
Dwight
Garrett,
is
concerned
that “he
won’t
even
show us
his tax
return
information.”
“Mitt
Romney
isn't
the
right
candidate
for the
99%,” he
said.
“We need
more
teachers,
police
officers
and
other
jobs
that
would
boost
our
infrastructure.
We need
someone
in
office
who
cares
about
the
middle
class
and
doesn't
cater to
the 1%.”
Launched
in April
2011,
Good
Jobs Now
is a
broad
coalition
of
community
groups,
faith
leaders,
concerned
citizens
and the
labor
section
committed
to
holding
decision
makers
and
elected
officials
accountable
for the
lack of
jobs,
and to
help
find
solutions.
