in Labor

DETROIT
(Tell Us
Det) -
Over
three
thousand
labor
union
members
marched
down
Michigan
Avenue
in route
to hear
Vice
President
Joe
Biden
deliver
a Labor
Day
speech
that
took
direct
aim at
the
Republican
Party.
The Vice
President
told the
crowd
that
this
election
is “The
starkest
choice
in my
memory.”
In his
15
minute
speech,
Biden
said GOP
candidate
Mitt
Romney
is out
of touch
on labor
issues,
from
right-to-
work
laws to
outsourcing,
and the
Obama
administration’s
auto
industry
bailout.
He
praised
workers
saying,
“You’re
the
reason
that the
automobile
industry
is back.
Whether
it was
the
plant
closures
or the
wage
freezes
and cuts
you
took,
the
elimination
of
dental
and
vision
that you
had to
undertake
your
sacrifices,
you
sacrificed
to keep
your
companies
open.”
Biden
rallied
the
cheering
faithful
with a
rhetorical
question.
Are you
better
off than
four
years
ago? The
Vice
President
answered,
“I got a
little
bumper
sticker
for you.
Osama
bin
Laden is
dead and
General
Motors
is
alive!
Osama
bin
Laden is
dead and
General
Motors
is
alive!”
In this
season
of
Presidential
politics,
the
annual
metro
Detroit
AFL-CIO
Labor
Day
rally
was a
platform
to lead
into the
Democratic
Party
convention
in
Charlotte,
North
Carolina.
Michigan
is
considered
a swing
state
with
President
Obama
holding
onto a
slight
lead
over
Romney.
An
August
28th
survey
conducted
by EPIC-MRA
had
Obama
with 49
percent
to
Romney’s
46
percent
among
likely
Michigan
voters.
The Vice
President
has been
a
frequent
speaker
Detroit
recently,
appearing
before
students
at
Renaissance
High
School
on
August
22nd and
addressing
the
national
convention
of the
American
Federation
of
Teachers'
national
convention
in July.
