Citizen
tips
lead to
3 arrest
in the
Winans
Carjacking
Case

Friday
afternoon,
a 17 and
21
year-old
male
suspects
were
arrested
in
connection
to the
carjacking
of
Pastor
Marvin
Winans,
which
occurred
on May
16th,
according
to
Detroit
Chief of
Police
Ralph L.
Godbee,
Jr. By
Friday
night, a
third
suspect
was in
custody.
Around
3:30
p.m., at
a CITGO
gas
station
in the
13300
block of
Linwood,
Winans,
aged 54,
had
finished
pumping
gas into
his
vehicle,
a purple
2012,
Infinity,
QX56, 4
door,
when he
was
approached
by the
male
suspect,
who
allegedly
physically
assault
him
aided by
three
other
male
suspects.
Personal
items
and an
undisclosed
amount
of money
were
taken
from the
pastor
The
suspects
escaped
in the
victim’s
vehicle
south on
Linwood,
the
victim’s
vehicle
was
recovered
on the
city’s
west
side.
Based on
citizen tips the Detroit Police’s 10th Precinct Auto Theft
section officers arrested the male suspect Thursday
afternoon in the 3000 block of Cortland. An investigative
report will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s
for review. This investigation is still active.
“Anytime
a person becomes a victim of unwarranted acts of violence,
it is essential that we, police and citizens, continue to
work together to capture these persons, so that they can
face justice,” stated Chief Godbee. “This arrest is evident.
Again, as a result of the outstanding teamwork, between our
police officers, investigators and citizens, within 48 hours
the suspect was apprehended.”
