In the
face of
hard
times
Detroit
continues
to
transform

DETROIT
(Tell Us
Det) -
If you
haven’t
taken a
trip
around
Detroit
to
really
view it
with an
observer’s
eye,
then you
should
definitely
put it
on your
To-Do
list. A
special
media
event
was held
at
Detroit
Port
Authority
to get
the word
out
about
things
happening
to
transform
Detroit
in ways
that may
not have
been
thought
of as
possibilities
for city
engagement.
Usually,
the
thought
process
turns to
the
automobile
industry
as the
single
basis
for job
creations
in
technology
as well
as other
branches
of
services.
The 2012
Transformation
Detroit
Media
Briefing
was held
to
highlight
some of
the
strategies
being
used to
move
Detroit
forward.
A
two-day
event
was
planned
to
highlight
the
Creative
Repurposing.
Highlighting
products
made in
Detroit
introduced
the
first
event:
Faygo
pop with
all the
familiar
flavors
and
Better
Made
Potato
Chips.
Guests
chatted
about
their
favorites
while
waiting
to
network
aboard
the
beautiful
Infinity
Yacht.
Mayor
Bing
gave
encouraging
remarks
about
the
progress
being
made in
all
areas of
the city
creating
an
attraction
for many
21-35
year old
professionals
and
entrepreneurs.
Many of
them are
getting
the
urban
experience
for the
very
first
time and
are
thrilled
to
become
urban
dwellers.
There is
a call
for
media
like
TellUsDetroit
and
others
to
continue
telling
the
positive
story of
Detroit.
The food
industry
is
instrumental
in this
Creative
Repurposing
initiative.
There
were
many
persons
associated
with
various
food
services
that
provide
direct
access
to
Detroiters.
It was
interesting
to find
out that
refrigerated
Hash-Brown
Potatoes
are such
a
product
as well
as being
originator
of
chopped
bagged
lettuce.
There is
much to
be
learned
from the
many
businesses
located
in the
Eastern
Market
area.
Pellerito
Foods at
Eastern
Market
since
1943 and
Avalon
Bakery
are just
two
examples
of
businesses
that
keep
customers
coming
for
excellent
products
including
delicious
cookies.
Others
from a
panel of
strategists,
manufacturers,
producers
and
creative
collaborators
told of
their
ideas
that
have
already
begun to
take
shape
and move
forward.
Ideas
were
plentiful
including
the
vegans.
Detroit
Vegan
Soul has
come up
with
ideas to
feed and
educate
those
who wish
to
pursue a
healthier
lifestyle
while
keeping
their
culture
intact.
Motor
City
Blight
Busters,
John
George,
is
continuing
to fight
back and
is
pleased
with the
many
volunteers
who join
in the
fight to
revitalize
the
neighborhoods.
The
young
job
seekers
have a
source,
Pay It
Forward,
to try
and
become a
contributing
citizen.
There
are
resources
all
around
who are
trying
to
transform
Detroit
to show
off its
great
assets.
The
second
day was
dedicated
to
showing
off
Detroit.
Cindy
Pasky-CEO
with
Detroit
Works
Project
and team
lead a
tour
through
the
Grandmont/Rosedale
neighborhood,
Brightmoor
neighborhood
and
Southwest
Detroit.
There
were
representatives
to talk
about
the
contributions,
services
offered,
and the
developments.
There is
much to
be seen
and many
opportunities
for
volunteers
to get
involved.
The call
is
present.
If you
are
seeking
to get
involved,
there is
a spot
for you
to
exercise
your
skills
and
passion.
