Two teen
suspects
arrested
for
carjacking,
arson
and
murder
DETROIT

Two
teenagers
have
been
arrested
and
charged
for the
fatal
shooting
of a
23-year-old
male,
according
to DPD
Chief
Ralph L.
Godbee,
Jr.
"Due to
the
meticulous
and
thorough
investigation
conducted
by the
Detroit
Police
Homicide
Investigators,
and
members
of the
Comprehensive
Violence
Reduction
Partnership
(CVRP),
Victor
Jerome
Newell,
aged 19
and
Trenton
Anthony
Shell,
aged 18,
were
arrested
for the
fatal
shooting
of Wyman
John
Shaver,
said
Godbee.
On
Thursday,
July
12th at
approximately
3:30
a.m.,
officers
responded
to a
police
run to a
local
business
located
in the
14300
block of
Harper
to
investigate
a
shooting.
The
officers
were
directed
to
Shaver
by
witnesses
where he
sat on
the
ground,
suffering
from a
gunshot
wound.
Shaver
was
conveyed
to a
local
hospital
for
treatment,
but
eventually
died
from his
injuries.
According
to
investigators,
Shaver
was
seated
in his
2004
Range
Rover,
when an
unknown
armed
suspect
approached
the
vehicle,
and
order
Shaver
out of
the
vehicle.
It’s
alleged
that as
Shaver
exited
the
vehicle;
a shot
was
fired,
which
fatally
injured
him. The
suspect
escaped
in
Shaver’s
vehicle.
Shaver’s
vehicle
was
found by
police
investigators
inside a
garage
in the
18000
block of
San Juan
on the
west
side of
Detroit,
where
they
observed
Newell
and
Shell
enter
into
that
structure.
Both
were
taken
into
police
custody
without
any
incidents
around
12:45
p.m.
An
arrest
report
was
submitted
to the
Wayne
County
Prosecutor’s
Office
for
review.
Saturday,
the
warrant
was
signed
and
defendants
Victor
Newell
and
Trenton
Shell
were
charged
as
follows:
1.
Homicide
– Felony
Murder
2.
Carjacking
3.
Felony
Firearms
4. Arson
–
Preparation
to Burn
Property
5.
Receiving
and
Concealing
Stolen
Property
Both
defendants
are
expected
to be
arraigned
on
Monday,
July 16,
2012.

investigators
and law
enforcement
partners
did an
outstanding
job to
close
this
case and
apprehend
two
individuals
within
nine
hours of
this
tragic
incident.”
stated
Chief
Godbee.
“Hopefully
these
arrests
will
bring
some
closure
for
Wyman
Shaver’s
family”.

Partnership
consists
of
members
from the
Detroit
Police
Department,
Bureau
of
Alcohol,
Tobacco,
Firearms
&
Explosives,
Federal
Bureau
of
Investigation,
Michigan
State
Police,
and
Michigan
Department
of
