New Downtown Detroit Foodland Supermarket Opens Just In Time For The Thanksgiving Holiday

Detroit, MI - Last Saturday, the new Downtown Detroit Foodland Supermarket opened its doors to the downtown community The full-service market is located at 1565 East Lafayette at the corner of Orleans just east of I-375.

The market is owned and operated by grocery veteran Keith Tansil who has more than thirty-years in the grocery business. Mr. Tansil has brought Downtown Foodland Supermarket to a community that has been without a grocer for several years. The 140,000 square-foot space was leased from First Commercial Realty in the Shops at Lafayette Park.

Mr. Tansil has managed grocery stores in Detroits Grandmont-Rosedale area since 1978 -- first at Kroger's for fifteen years followed by the Metro-Foodland. He is confident that the Greater Downtown area is a good place to invest to serve the community. "There was a need for a grocery store in this area, the neighborhood deserves it, Mr. Tansil said. "I've been doing this for 30 years and this is a good spot to open a supermarket with quality food and services for an under served community."

The Downtown Foodland employs 40 people and the hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Detroit Mayor Ken Cockrel paid a visit to the new Foodland supermarket to congratulate store owner Keith Tansil and staff.
