Bashara's lawyer holds press conference, expects charges soon against acquaintance

DETROIT (Tell Us USA) - Bob Bashara's attorney, David Griem spoke to the media Friday morning from his office at the Guardian Building on Griswold St. in Detroit.

His client, Bob Bashara has been named the key person of interest in the murder of his wife Jane Bashara by the Grosse Pointe Park, MI police.

David Griem said at the news conference that the acquaintance, Joseph Gentz, has reportedly told several different versions of what happened and has implicated himself in the killing as well.

Griem disputes Gentz's reported statements to police that he was paid to help kill Jane Bashara.

When asked where he stood in regards to charges against his client Griem replied, "I hope that there will be no charges coming against my client."

Griem also said, "The interesting question is to be asked today is to be asked of Grosse Pointe Park Police Department..

What do we do with Joe? I think they’re in a tenuous position of what to do."

Sources have told Tell Us Detroit that 48 year-old Joe Gentz, the man who says he was paid to kill Jane Bashara, has been released from the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department late this afternoon.

Joe had been in police custody since walking into the Police Department and admitting he was involved in Jane Bashara's murder. He walked into the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department Tuesday afternoon.

Grosse Pointe Park Chief of Police David A. Hiller released a statement late Friday regarding the Jane Bashara case saying, "Our job as investigators is to prove facts beyond a reasonable doubt. In doing so we must conduct a through and complete investigation."

"As a result we are not going to answer any specific questions regarding the ongoing investigation. I encourage and ask anyone with information regarding this case to contact Grosse Pointe Park Police Department at 313.822.7400," the Chief said.

This week, Joe has been telling police he was there for Jane's murder, but sources have confirmed his story has changed on several occasions.

Asked about the prospect of Bashara being charged, Griem said, "I hope that there will be no charges coming against my client." He said he highly respects Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy and praised her for not jumping to file charges.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has no news to announce regarding the ongoing police investigation into the homicide of Grosse Pointe Park resident Jane Bashara. A warrant request has not been presented in this matter and police are continuing their investigating.

Jane Bashara's body was found Jan. 25 in the rear seat of her luxury Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle in a Detroit alley, about six miles from the couple's home in affluent Grosse Pointe Park.
