Sharpton,
Jr. will
be the
guest
speaker
at
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church
on
Sunday,
September
9, at
the
11:00 AM
service.
Rev.
Sharpton
is host
of the
national
Keepin’
it Real
daily
radio
talk
show and
host of
Politics
Nation,
a
nightly
talk
show on
MSNBC.
Prior to
being
named
host of
his own
show on
MSNBC,
Rev.
Sharpton
made
regular
appearances
on Fox
News,
CNN and
MSNBC.
He is an
American
Baptist
minister,
and
civil
rights
activist
who
refers
to
himself
as an
old
school
civil
rights
activist
because
of his
connection
with
Jesse
Jackson
and
others
that
were
activist
during
the
civil
rights
movement.
Rev.
Sharpton,
well
known
and
respected
in the
community
for
telling
it like
it is,
and
Keepin’
it real,
regularly
reminds
his
listeners
throughout
the 3
hour
radio
talk
show
that
he’s
“Keepin’
it
Real.”
He is
criticized
by some
for
being
outspoken
and
regularly
speaking
out
about
injustices
in
cities
throughout
the
country.
The
Trayvon
Martin
shooting
became a
regular
part of
his
daily
radio
talk
show.
Thousands
of his
listeners
came to
Florida
from
across
the
nation
to march
for
justice
with
Rev.
Sharpton
and
Trayvon’s
parents.
His
critics
label
him as
“a
political
radical
who is
to blame
in part
for the
deterioration
of race
relations.”
His
supporters
praise
his
ability
and
willingness
to get
things
done in
spite of
the
obstacles
and the
power
structure.
Ed Koch,
former
New York
Mayor,
and
former
foe,
said
“Sharpton
deserves
the
respect
he
enjoys
among
African
Americans:
He is
willing
to go to
jail for
them.”

Sharpton
has

the
country;

ages,
ethnicities
and
income
levels.
