DETROIT,
MI -
Growing
up on
the
west-side
of the
Detroit,
Terrance
Ashworth
Keith
had
never
seen a
sunrise
on the
Detroit
River
until he
moved as
an adult
to
downtown
Detroit.
While
the
sunrise
is
always
present,
the
sunrise
often
goes
noticed
or its
essence
not
captured
showing
images
of the
beautiful
intersection
of the
sun and
river.
This
revelation
inspired
his
first
edition
of the
book
published
by
Keith’s
publishing
company,
Ashworth
& Keith.
The
photography
book
consists
of a
hard
cover,
dust
jacket
and
nearly
100
vibrant
color
images
and
reflective
quotes.
“Many
have
never
seen the
Detroit
River at
sunrise,”
said
photographer
Terrance
Keith.
“When I
witnessed
the
sunrise
above
the
Detroit
River
for the
first
time, my
view of
my city
was
transformed.
The
images
unapologetically
counter
the
often
popularly
referenced
“ruin
porn”
used to
define
and show
Detroit
at its
worse;
we are
so much
more.”
Keith
describes
Sunrise
on the
Detroit
River as
“a love
story of
how the
sun
gently
rises in
a
colorful
array of
light,
anew
each
day.” It
is his
love
letter
to the
city he
adores
represented
by
thousands
of
photographs
he’s
taken
since
2007 and
continuing
to
present-day.
Nearly
one-hundred
breathtaking
photographs
taken on
the
banks of
the
Detroit
River
and
along
landmarks
of the
Detroit
Riverwalk
and
Belle
Isle
have
been
selected
for the
book the
inaugural.
Celebrating
Detroit’s
313th
birthday
this
year,
the
timing
is
fitting
to
highlight
images
on the
banks of
the
Detroit
River.
Keith
concludes,
“Amidst
decades
of
challenging
times
for the
city,
many
Detroiters
- those
who have
left and
those
who
stayed -
understandably,
may have
lost
site of
the
city’s
history
and
contributions
to the
state of
Michigan,
the
nation
and the
world.
My hope
is to
provide
reflections,
perspectives
and
unabashed
love for
the city
that
inspired
my love
of
photography
by
sharing
images
that are
with us
every
day on
our
riverfront
- in the
best of
times
and the
worst of
times.”
Advanced
orders
of the
book has
reached
more
than
eight-hundred
and
interest
continues
to
build.
