DETROIT,
MI (Tell

-
Saturdays
clear
and
colorful
fall
weather
served
as a
perfect
backdrop
for the
annual
'Run of
the
Dead'
race
through
some of
the
city's
oldest
cemetaries
to honor
those
loved
ones who
have
passed
away.
The
morning
started
out a
bit
brisk,
but sun
and
activity
quickly
warmed
the body
and soul
of all
in
attendance.
The
event is
in
celebration
of the
Mexican
indigenous
peoples
holiday,
'Dia de
los
Muertos'.
This
marks
the
fifth
year for
the run
which
includes
a loop
through
historic
Woodmere
and Holy
Cross
Cemeteries,
to pay
respect
to the
memory
of
relatives
and
friends
who have
died.
Presented
by
Southwest
Detroit
Business
Association,
this
festive
occasion
continues
to grow
in
popularity
each
year.
The
Mexican
culture
can
easily
be seen
in the
face
painting
and
costumes
being
worn by
many of
the
participants.
From
die-hard
runners
to
friends
and
families
strolling,
everyone
enjoyed
the
music,
the
coffee
cart
conveniently
located
by the
registration
tables
and the
cheerful
mood of
all the
volunteers
and
organizers.
Día de
los
Muertos
is
particularly
celebrated
in
Mexico
where
the day
is a
public
holiday.
it spans
from
October
31,
November
1 and
November
2 to
coincide
with the
Western
Christian
triduum
of All
Saints'
Eve, All
Saints'
Day, and
All
Souls'
Day.
This run
is one
more
option
that the
city of
Detroit
offers
for
enjoyment
and
healthy
activities
during
the
autumn
season.
