awarded
five
scholarships
to high
school
and
college
students
DETROIT–
In a
ceremony
held
today
inside
Cobo
Center’s
fully
equipped,
state-of-the-art
television
and
broadcast
studio,
five
students
and
their
perspective
schools
were
granted
$6,000
in
scholarships
through
the Cobo
30/60
Video
Scholarship.
In
addition
to the
scholarships,
the
winning
entries
debuted
on Cobo
Center’s
outdoor
video
board
located
on the
corner
of
Washington
Blvd.
and
Congress
St. in
Detroit.
High
school
senior,
Christopher
Adams of
L’Anse
Creuse
High
School
in
Harrison
Charter
Township
received
$1,000
for his
college
education.
Adams is
planning
to major
in
advertising
or
graphic
design
at Wayne
State
University,
College
for
Creative
Studies
or
Macomb
Community
College.
“I was
ecstatic
when I
heard
that my
video
had won,
as this
was my
first
time
producing
film,”
said
Christopher
Adams,
Cobo
30/60
Scholarship
Grand
Prize
Winner.
“I was
very
much
inspired
by the
renovations
done to
Cobo
Center
and the
powerful
energy
of the
City of
Detroit.”
Four
runner-up
videos
also
debuted
on
Cobo’s
outdoor
video
board,
with the
students
each
receiving
$500 to
support
their
education.
The
runner-ups
were
Hassan
Bazzi of
Dearborn
High
School,
Cheyenne
DeWolf
of
Lakeview
High
School,
Tarik
Dobbs of
Dearborn
High
School
and
Chloe
Dunklin
of
Lawrence
Technological
University.
Students’
schools
also
received
a
matching
donation
from
Cobo
Center.
“We saw
an
extraordinary
amount
of
talent
displayed
through
this
scholarship
challenge,”
said
Thom
Connors,
regional
vice
president
and
general
manager
SMG/Cobo
Center.
“We are
thrilled
to
display
that
talent
on the
video
board
for
everyone
to see
and
enjoy.”
The
final
phase of
Cobo
Center’s
$279
million
renovation
includes
the
installation
of two
external
video
boards.
The
Congress
video
board
totals
3,000
sq./ft.
and is
at the
corner
of
Washington
Blvd.
and
Congress
St. in
the
center
of
Downtown
Detroit.
The
marquee
board on
Jefferson
Ave. and
Washington
Blvd. is
4,800
sq./ft.
and will
debut
this
summer.
