Comcast installs nearly 700 new outdoor Wi-Fi Hotspots in Southeast Michigan to keep customers connected on the go

PLYMOUTH, MI - Comcast announced today it has installed nearly 700 new XFINITY Wi-Fi outdoor hotspots in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak and St. Clair Shores. With 654,000 total XFINITY Wi-Fi hotpots statewide, Comcast offers more coverage than any other provider in Michigan, ensuring customers have the fastest available online experience in their home, at work and in popular outdoor areas.

Additional XFINITY Wi-Fi outdoor hotspots will launch across other Michigan communities later this year. This announcement complements Comcast’s thousands of existing residential and business hotspots in the area, which most XFINITY Internet customers can access at no additional cost.

“We’re a mobile-centric society with an insatiable appetite for staying connected all the time, everywhere,” said Tim Collins, Comcast senior vice president in Michigan. “These outdoor hotspots offer our customers even more value from their XFINITY service by letting them connect to family, friends, information and entertainment like never before.”

Over the past four years, Comcast has invested in its network and in new products and services, such as its X1 platform and XFINITY Home, to enhance the customer experience. The company has increased Internet speeds in Michigan virtually every year for more than a decade, and in 2015, Comcast launched Gigabit Pro, a professional-grade residential Internet tier that delivers 2-Gbps upload and download speeds.

Earlier this year, Comcast announced it will introduce the world’s first DOCSIS 3.1-powered gigabit Internet service to residential and business customers in Detroit. The new network technology will, for the first time, make it possible for Xfinity and Comcast Business Internet customers to receive gigabit speeds over the communications lines that most customers already have in their homes and offices.

Finding the nearest XFINITY Wi-Fi hotspot
Most XFINITY Internet customers can access XFINITY Wi-Fi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The XFINITY Wi-Fi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.

Non-customers can also access the company’s new outdoor hotspots. Comcast offers two, 60-minute complimentary sessions per month. After that, non-customers can purchase hourly, daily, weekly or monthly access passes.
