SPRING TRAINING IN DETROIT: YOU WALK BEFORE YOU RUN
A correct fitness walking shoe becomes your most
important gear
Spring
is around the corner. It's time for you to begin a
fitness program, but you don't know where to start. It's
easy! Walk before you run. Walking is one of the easiest
and most profitable forms of exercise. All you need is a
good pair of shoes, comfortable clothing, and the will
to walk.
First, start out slow and easy.
For most people this means head out the door, walk for
10 minutes, and walk back. Can it be as easy as that?
Yes, It's that easy. Do this every day for a week. If
this was easy for you, add five minutes to your walks
next week. Keep adding 5 minutes until you are walking
as long as desired.
Watch your posture. Walk tall. Think of elongating your
body. Hold your head up and eyes forward. Your shoulders
should be down, back and relaxed. Tighten your abdominal
muscles and buttocks and fall into a natural stride.
Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and
after walking. We find it's helpful to have a scheduled
rest station on your rout to relieve yourself from all
the water consumption. Incorporate a warm up, cool
down and stretches into your routine.
When you shop for fitness gear, shoes become the most
important piece. Quality should not be compromised.
Always focus on buying comfortable shoes for walking,
rather than getting the latest fad. Ensuring proper fit
becomes primary, as improper fit can become a serious
cause of concern, giving rise to pain and or injury.
Board Certified Pedorthist Joe Dyament, owner of Foot
Solutions in St. Clair Shores, MI states, "Spira has
developed a remarkable energy return technology for
footwear."
According
to a biomechanical study conducted by the Shoe Lab at
Michigan
State University, WaveSprings return an astounding
87-96% of energy otherwise lost to the ground. The
highest energy return score of any shoe ever tested.
"We've experienced wonderful results with the Spira
Walker from
customers who need more cushion and stability
when at work or while walking. People who are required
to stand on concrete all day especially enjoy Spira
and report relief in leg and lower back pain."
Dyament concluded, "Spira shoes allow people to
participate in physical activity for longer periods of
time with far less stress on the body. Recovery time
following vigorous activity is greatly reduced."
