way of connecting us as human beings. When we hear ourselves

Hold
Benefit
for
Planned

Detroit
DETROIT
(Tell Us
Det) -
One in
five
women in
America
will be
served
by
Planned
Parenthood
at some
point in
their
lifetime.
The
statistic
often
gets
lost in
the
politics
of birth
control,
but
Michigan’s
Planned
Parenthood
is out
to
educate
Detroiters
about
its
services
using a
rather
entertaining
and
creative
approach.
On
October
18,
2012,
Planned
Parenthood
Mid and
South
Michigan
will
present
its
first-ever
live
storytelling
event in
conjunction
with the
edgy,
avant-garde
The
Secret
Society
of
Twisted
Storytellers.
The
event
will
feature
real
Detroiters
telling
true-life
stories,
straight
from the
heart on
the
theme,
“Stories
from
Life’s
Surprises.”
“Too
often
politicians
try to
marginalize
Planned
Parenthood”
said CEO
Lori
Lamerand.
“We are
thrilled
that The
Secret
Society
of
Twisted
Storytellers
invited
us to be
a part
of an
event
that
helps
bring
awareness
of our
services
to
everyday
Detroiters.”
Twisted
Storytellers
founder
Satori
Shakoor
conceived
the idea
of
connecting
with
Detroiters
through
sharing
stories
when she
wondered
how she
could
help
uplift
the
city.
It all
came
together
when
Shakoor
decided
to draw
upon her
own
experiences
as a
performing
artist
and
reached
out to
Planned
Parenthood.
She said
“Stories
have a
way of
connecting
us as
human
beings.
