“DIA
Away:
Think
Like An
Artist”

Friends

Alger
Theater
detailed
two new
interactive
events
as part
of a
collaboration
with the
Detroit
Institute
of Art.
The DIA
Director’s
Cut and
DIA Away
are
comprehensive
additions
to the
DIA
Inside|Out
art
installation
in the
neighborhoods
surrounding
the
Alger
Theater,
which
runs
through
October.
DIA
Director's
Cut,
takes
place
from
6:30-8:00
p.m. on
Thursday,
September
29.
At the
Directors
Cut,
Salvador
Salort-Pons,
Director
of the
Detroit
Institute
of Arts
discusses
his
vision
for the
museum,
explores
some of
his
favorite
works of
art, and
answers
questions
from the
community.
A
reception
follows,
sponsored
by
Friends
of the
Alger
Theater.
DIA
Away:
Think
Like an
Artist,
is an
innovative
53-foot
double-expandable
trailer
that
converts
into a
mobile
digital
classroom
for
people
of all
ages.
DIA
employees
invite
community
members
to learn
about
how
artists
think
and
work. It
will
arrive
on the
corner
of Outer
Drive at
East
Warren
Avenue
on
Saturday
Oct.1
from
12:00-5:00
p.m.
Expanding
on ways
to make
art,
Friends
of the
Alger
Theater
hosts on
Saturday,
Oct. 1
silkscreen
artist,
Sarms
Jabra in
the
theater
lobby
for a
screen
printing
workshop
from
12:00-5:00
p.m.
Participants
can
bring an
article
of
clothing
such as
a
t-shirt,
jeans,
sweatpants,
sweatshirt,
scarf,
or bag
to
screen a
variety
of ink
colors
and
graphics
that
commemorate
the day
with the
DIA.
They
create a
unique
souvenir
of the
Alger
Theater
as a
welcoming
destination
for the
arts.

to the

Common
Core
Standards
for
English/Language
Arts.
