Detroit Film Fest to Showcase International Cinema

DETROIT - The award winning made-in-Hawaii comedy, GET A JOB, will be shown at the Trinity International Film Festival on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. The TIFF will again be hosted at the Carr Arts Center in downtown Detroit. Film curator Marshalle Montgomery promises an exciting mix of international shorts and full features that will have some Detroit connections. (311 E. Grand River, Detroit, MI 48226) http://trinityinternationalfilmfest.blogspot.com/

GET A JOB wowed at an impressive list of film festivals with the help of an outstanding soundtrack. The full feature is a great example for young filmmakers as the effort marries musicality along with cinema sight gags. Director Brian Kohne wowed with the blending of these elements. Island headliners Willie K, Eric Gilliom, Carolyn Omine and Augie T entertain beyond expectations. The audience also gets to share with world class performers Jake Shimabukuro, Mick Fleetwood, Willie Nelson, Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers and Amy Hanaiali’i. One of the producers, Raymond Rolak, will conduct a Q&A after the August 2nd showcase. www.getajobmovie.com

The Trinity International Film Fest is in its eighth year and is coordinated by Montgomery. The two day affair, August 1-2, has reduced rate parking next door in the adjacent structure. Montgomery has an interesting lineup of global independent films scheduled. Co-committee members, Gregory Taylor and Xiao Dan Lu, have the presentation of international cinema to Detroit and Windsor audiences as part of their mission statements.

Montgomery said, “The Detroit-Windsor market is so inclusive and we have so much to share with local filmmakers. Also, we can learn from other global cinema producers. We are also expanding our showcase with film poster artists. The Trinity International Film Fest exposes area audiences to a glimpse at what others are doing. We are excited to have local cinema viewers see Polish and Ukraine submissions. We are expanding our Slavic footprint every-year. Our Mission Statement is to provide a platform that showcases diverse and international films that supports the work of both established and emerging filmmakers.”

There will be a Friday, August 1st opening reception with the filmmakers starting at 6:00 p.m. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served. Sony Media International is the keynote sponsor.
