Session 1: July 22-25, 2008 - West African Adventure Quest
Do you dream of setting off on a quest or adventure? Here’s your chance in this exciting web-based journey to the enchanting countries of West Africa. You have been invited to the Oba’s palace. Upon your arrival, you find out that the British have captured him! Use your internet super-sleuth capabilities to assemble a team, plot a course and follow maps as you travel hundreds of miles that lead you to a clue written in Twi, the native language of the Ashanti people and a Chi Wara found in Mali which holds a very important secret. Beware; there are many tricks and traps to keep you from finding Oba and returning him to his palace in Benin.

Academic Focus Area(s): Anthropology, Art, Creative Writing, History, Technology, Music, Foreign Language

Session 2: July 29-August 1, 2008 - Central Africa Cache & Dash
Get your hands dirty in a simulated dig and experience the different roles that archaeologists play throughout the excavation process. A terrible windstorm has demolished a local village and the people are displaced throughout the area. Several letters have been sent to you that hold clues to architectural plans to rebuild the village but the plans are in German, French and Spanish. You and your team must translate the letters, search the ruins, uncover artifacts, catalog, sketch, and interpret your finds. Explore the famous sites of the Congo and other areas as you learn about the people who once lived there and what they left behind—remains of burial sites, temples, and markets. Test your skills at geocaching, a high-tech scavenger hunt using handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) units.

Session 3: August 5-8, 2008 - SURVIVOR: East Africa
You have just arrived at the Great Pyramid of Giza. Your goal: locate your tribe and design your tribal banner using hieroglyphics. Your team needs food-- but in order to get it you must solve physical and mental tests. Gods Ra, Sobek and Osiris hold the keys to sustaining your tribe. Look for the Ethiopian Oracle. Uncover the clues that lead you to the meaning of her name and traditions of her society. Find the right clues and your team will win immunity, make a wrong turn and face the Tribal Council as they decide your fate.

Academic Focus Area(s): Geography, Language Arts, Science, History, Culinary Arts, Physical Education

Each session is $165 per week and runs from 9am-3pm. Participants fee includes a T-shirt and lunch. Call (313) 494-5800 for more information
