DETROIT
-
Prosecutor
Kym
Worthy
has
charged
Cleveland
Tyvon
Smelley,
30 (DOB:
7/27/85),
Deonta
Charles
Bennett,
21 (DOB:
12/14/94)
and
Antoine
Lamar
Smelley,
32 (DOB:
11/26/83)
in
connection
with the
shooting
of a
three-year-old
girl,
Makanzee
Oldham
(DOB:
06/13/2013).
All
three
men are
Detroit
residents.
2-year-old
Makanzee
Oldham
died
Sunday.
She was
shot
Wednesday
while in
a car
with her
father
after a
fight
erupted.
All of
the
suspects
have
been
charged
with
assault
and
murder
along
with
other
crimes.
They
were
denied
bond.
St. John
Hospital
spokesman
Brian
Taylor
says the
girl is
in
critical
condition
three days
after
the
shooting.
Police
earlier
said she
had
died.
On May
25, 2016
at 7:30
p.m., it
is
alleged
that
Antoine
Smelley
poured
juice
over the
head of
a woman
who was
getting
ready to
go to a
prom.
Smelley
then
pulled
out a
handgun
and
threatened
the
young
woman
and her
friends.
Shortly
thereafter,
Cleveland
Smelley
and
Bennett
drove
over to
the
house
and met
briefly
with
Antoine
Smelley.
Once
outside,
the men
engaged
in a
fight
with
several
people.
During
the
fight,
it is
alleged
that
Bennett
gave a
handgun
to
Cleveland
Smelley,
who shot
at seven
people
in a
car,
including
Makanzee
Oldham,
who was
seriously
wounded.
"When I
got the
phone
call, I
kind of
got
choked
up,"
Assistant
Police
Chief
Steve
Dolunt
said.
"This
one
hurt, a
lot. The
young
girl
wasn't
even 3.
This one
hits
hard.
When an
innocent
child
gets
shot
over
stupid
stuff
... it's
just
senseless."”
“I’m
tired of
that.
And
especially
when it
comes to
kids, I
have no
use for
an
individual
that
would
have
total
disregard
for a
child’s
life,”
Chief
Dolunt
said.
It's not
clear if
the men
have
attorneys
at this
time.
There
was some
confusion
early
Thursday
afternoon
about
whether
the girl
survived
her
injuries.
Several
media
outlets
reported
that she
had
died,
but a
family
member,
Michael
Oldham,
stated
that the
girl is
"still
hanging
on, but
it's
pretty
critical."
