It was
June
23rd,
1963, in
Detroit,
Michigan
when the
Rev. Dr.
Martin
Luther
King,
Jr. led
a civil
rights
march of
thousands
and
first
delivered
a speech
with
what
would
become
his most
famous
words:
"I have
a
dream."
From the
steps of
the
Lincoln
Memorial,
on
August
28,
1963,
Dr. King
then
delivered
that
same
speech
in front
of
millions.
In
Detroit,
Reverend
Jesse
Jackson,
,
announced
the
“Rebuild
America”
March,
for
Jobs,
Justice
and
Peace to
be held
on the
anniversary
of that
infamous
March on
Washington.
Standing
inside
Greater
New Mt.
Moriah
Baptist
Church,
surrounded
by
members
of the
clergy,
business
leaders
and
everyday
citizens,
Reverend
Jackson
invited
and
encouraged
all that
share in
the
desire
to see
real
change
for
working
families
and all
of
America,
to come
and
participate
in this
historic
march.
The
Rainbow
Push
Coalition
and the
UAW,
endorsed
by the
Detroit
Urban
League,
AFSCME,
Representatives
John
Conyers
and John
Dingell,
along
with the
Detroit
NAACP
and a
host of
other
organizations,
have
determined
that it
is time
to
“Rebuild
America”
by
focusing
on Jobs,
Justice
and
Peace.
“Detroiters
and
residents
of the
State of
Michigan
have
been hit
extremely
hard,”

Rev.
Jackson,
“foreclosures
are up,
unemployment
is up,
crime is
up yet
graduation
rates
and
lending
by
banks,
specifically
in urban
areas,
are
down!”
Unionized
Labor,
Religious
Organizations,
Fraternities,
Sororities,
Civil
Rights
Agencies,
Block
Clubs
and
Professional
Associations
are
asked to
mark
their
calendars
and plan
to
gather
at the
UAW
–Ford
National
Program
Center,
located
at 151
W.
Jefferson,
on
August
28th ,
beginning
at 10:30
am, to

this
anniversary.
