HANDEL’S “MESSIAH” HARTFORD’S COMMUNITY GIFT SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21st

DETROIT - Hartford Memorial Baptist Church (HMBC) will perform Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, December 21 at 4 pm at Hartford Church. This is a star powered performance, and most amazing Hartford presents this world-class Handel’s Messiah presentation free of charge.

“It is our gift to Detroit and it offers an untold opportunity to reach out to a diverse public throughout the area,” said Dr. Charles G. Adams, pastor of Hartford Church. “We are proud to present this ageless production year after year. Our young people must experience all kinds of music. Families are especially invited to be a part of this gift to the community.” Pastor Adams also sings tenor for the performance.

If you’ve never experienced a performance of the “Messiah” don’t miss this opportunity. Now celebrating 63 successful years of Handel’s Messiah at Hartford Church, this is a rare opportunity to hear some of the most acclaimed soloists in a local performance at no charge and open to the public. It is a family event and a joyous occasion for the entire family.

Messiah could very easily become an annual family tradition; an opportunity for children of all ages to begin to appreciate the joy of classical music. In June 2014 The Hartford Music Connection presented the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to a capacity crowd free of charge with DPS School Choirs as participants.

The reviews from both the audience and the media for this annual performance continue to be nothing short of outstanding. The Hartford presentation of Handel’s Messiah has consistently maintained the highest performance standards with Dr. Robert A. Harris, emeritus professor of conducting at Northwestern University, has conducted over 50 performances of Handel’s Messiah throughout the United States and abroad.

This year Hartford Church is pleased to present Marietta Simpson, world renowned mezzo soprano, in the 2014 Messiah. Marrietta Simpson has sung in opera houses throughout Europe and the U.S. and under to world’s most famous conductors. Messiah is one of her specialties. Other soloists include Kearstin Piper Brown, a rising soprano from New York, A graduate of Spelman College, she earned a master’s degree at Northwestern University and has forged an international operatic and concert career.

Local prominent singers, James Moore, tenor, and Dr. Theodore Jones, bass, are the perennial soloists for Messiah at Hartford with their peerless performances over the years. Both maintain outstanding careers, performing in concert, opera and oratorio throughout the country and abroad. For the last several years their performances in Hartford’s Messiah have moved this event to new heights of artistry and interpretation.

Year after year Hartford presents Handel’s masterpiece with first class soloists, choir, orchestra and guest conductor, Dr. Robert A. Harris from Chicago.
