Vehicles for Change, Inc. (VFC), a nonprofit opens new location in Detroit

DETROIT - A grand opening celebration in Detroit for Vehicles for Change, Inc. (VFC), a Baltimore-based nonprofit which accepts and repairs donated cars and awards them to prequalified families for as little as $800 was held Tuesday morning on the city's eastside.

The Detroit location is the organization’s first national expansion. VFC’s model relies on car donations from the public and low-cost financing, and utilizes strategic community and social service agency partnerships to identify qualified recipients.

The mission of VFC is to empower families with financial challenges to achieve economic and personal independence through car ownership and technical training. For the Detroit program, VFC will partner with Matrix Human Services, Southwest Solutions and Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency to identify eligible individuals and families.

Vehicles for Change is located at 14486 Gratiot Ave. Detroit, MI 48205

About VFC - VFC repairs donated vehicles to meet its quality standards. The organization guarantees families with low-interest 12-month car loans —allowing them to build credit — and also provides an orientation course to prepare them for car ownership. In addition, VFC vehicles carry a six-month/6,000 mile warranty, which according to VFC, with proper maintenance will deliver reliable service for at least 24,000 miles or two years. Car donors gain a substantial tax advantage that’s not available with most other charities.
