  Two sweet victories for Detroit City Chess Club

DETROIT - The Detroit City Chess Club came home with 2 State Club Chess Championships this past weekend in Lansing, MI. DCCC won 1st place in both the Jr. High and High School sections. Detroit City Chess Club consist of many schools from the Detroit area.



DCCC went against other chess clubs from around the state with multiple schools within their clubs. DCCC started out very strong in the tournament with over 300 players and held tightly the 1st place position throughout the day. Deserving special recognition in the High School section are Cass Tech’s 9th graders Bryan Wilson, Micale Garland and Jaidyn Hamilton; Renaissance High 10th grader Dorian Smalley and 9th grader Noah Winkler and University of Detroit’s Jesuit 9th grader Lamar Price.



Deserving special recognition in the Jr. High Section is University Prep Science and Math Middle’s 6th graders Charisse Woods, Maxwell Motley and Nicholas Burton; Cooper Upper Elementary’s (Livonia Public School) 6th grader Eric Hobson Jr.



This is a special tournament for DCCC because we can only compete 2 times a year as a club. The next time DCCC can participate as a club is in March at the regionals in Cincinnati, OH says Kevin Fite founder of Detroit City Chess Club.
