- The
Southwest
Detroit
Business
Association
(SDBA)
hosted
more
than 300
community
leaders,
business
owners,
entrepreneurs
and
residents
during
its
annual
Community
Investment
Breakfast
on
Thursday,
June 16.
The
event
was
presented
by
MotorCity
Casino
Hotel
and held
in the
SoundBoard
located
at 2901
Grand
River
Ave.,
Detroit.

year’s

In
recognition
of this
year’s
breakfast
theme –
Southwest
Resurgence
– the
event
celebrated
the
growing
economic
investment
that is
taking
place in
Southwest
Detroit
while
also
acknowledging
SDBA
programs
and
services
to
promote
business
and
community
development.
Local
individuals,
businesses
and
organizations
were
recognized
during
an
awards
ceremony
for
their
achievements
and
positive
contributions
to the
community.
“This
year’s
honorees
have
diligently
worked
to make
our
neighborhood
a better
place to
live,
work and
play,”
said
SDBA
President
Kathy
Wendler.
“As
valued
community
partners,
their
dedication
is
inspiring
and
we’re
truly
proud to
share
their
individual
stories
and
thank
them for
their
efforts.”

Award.
Sworn in
as Wayne
County
Executive
in 2015,
Executive
Evans
has
established
a
reputation
as a
highly
effective
leader
who is
known
for his
efficiency,
innovation,
and
strategic
collaboration.
In just
under
two
years in
office,
Executive
Evans
and his
team
generated
Wayne
County’s
first
General
Fund
surplus
in eight
years by
implementing
a fiscal
Recovery
Plan
that has
eliminated
the
County’s
accumulated
and
structural
deficits.
The
Evans
Administration
reduced
Wayne
County
unfunded
healthcare
liabilities
by
nearly
one
billion
dollars.
They
also
negotiated
new
contracts
with
Wayne
County’s
labor
unions.
The
National
Organization
of Black
County
Officials
recently
recognized
Executive
Evans as
its 2016
County
Executive
of the
Year for
his work
to turn
around
the
County’s
finances.
Perkins
has
worked
at FOX 2
News for
24
years.
He has
won two
Emmy
awards
for
reporting,
as well
as four
nominations
for Best
Anchor.
In
addition
to
anchoring
the
weekday
evening
news, he
also
hosts
the
popular
talk
show
“Let it
Rip!” on
Thursday
nights.
