National Sorority Commemorates 103 Years of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service

SOUTHFIELD - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Southfield Alumnae Chapter, a service organization with a long history of social advocacy and women’s empowerment, presents its Founders Day Luncheon on Saturday, March 5, 2016. This celebratory luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Henry Hotel, 300 Town Center Drive, Dearborn, Mich., 48126.

The theme to commemorate the founding of the Sorority’s 103 year history is, “The Power of Women, The Power of Delta: Strengthening Our Connections.” Beverly E. Smith, National First Vice President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will deliver the keynote address. The 24th National President, Cynthia M.A. Butler-McIntyre, will also speak at the occasion.

“As we celebrate more than 100 years of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service, I am reminded of the 22 dynamic collegiate women who founded our illustrious sisterhood at Howard University. They used their collective intellect and strength to promote academic excellence, and to engage in social action initiatives that would benefit the underserved. We are honored to continue this legacy while connecting and empowering women worldwide”, says Danita L. Wimbush, president of Southfield Alumnae Chapter.

Community leaders, professionals, and metro Detroit influencers will experience the philanthropic journey of the Sorority while dining, and being entertained by music and dance. A host of notable women across America will be highlighted in the Grand Ballroom with a focus on the Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

The cost of the luncheon is $65 and is open to the public. Tickets are available via PayPal at http://www.deltasac.org/. For additional information, please contact Gloria N. Smith or Dr. Joslyn N. Witherspoon, Founders Day Committee Chair and Co-chair respectively, at foundersday@deltasac.org.
