Educational
Services
(HES) is
celebrating
Mr. Ali
Bazzi,
Assistant
Superintendent
of all
four HES
schools
and
principal
of Star
International
Academy
(SIA),
being
one of
five
finalists
nominated
for the
2017
Michigan
charter
school
administrator
of the
year.
Awarded
by the
state
charter
school
association,
Michigan
Association
of
Public
School
Academies
(MAPSA),
the
award is
among
the most
prestigious
honors a
Michigan
charter
school
educator
can
receive.
HES and
the
staff of
SIA will
celebrate
Bazzi’s
nomination
during a
staff
appreciation
event at
Star
International
Academy
on May
12 at 1
pm. The
school
is
located
at 24425
Hass in
Dearborn
Heights.
Bazzi
joined
the HES
family
in 2012
after
serving
as a
teacher,
assistant
principal
and
principal
at other
Michigan
charter
schools.
Prior to
his
current
roles as
Assistant
Superintendent
and
principal
of SIA,
he
served
as
principal
of HES’s
Universal
Learning
Academy,
a Pre k
-12th
grade
school
in
Westland.

In his
dual
role,
Bazzi
leads,
mentors
and
inspires
a staff
of more
than 125
while
also
running
a high
performing
school
with
more
than
1500
students
from
Pre-k to
12th
grade.
Parents

district

being a
trustworthy
partner
in their
student’s
educational
journey.

Under
his
leadership,
SIA
students
have
made
numerous
achievements,
including:
• Best performing high school (Mackinac Center for Public Policy)
• MDE Score Card improvement from yellow to lime
• Expected graduation rate of 98.96% for 2017’s graduating class of 74 students
• $7M in scholarships for the graduating class of 2015; $10.9M for class of 2017 so far
• Piloted and advised robotics program in 2015-2016 that still operates today • Coverage about SIA in several local, regional, national media outlets |
Bazzi
holds an
Educational
Specialist
Degree
in
Educational
Leadership,
a
Masters
in
cultural
anthropology
and a
Bachelor’s
in
anthropology.
He is
also
currently
completing
a PhD
program
focused
on
curriculum
and
instruction.
