The I Am Woman Center Presents, The I AM WOMAN Expo

“You are your Sister’s Keeper” - Fighting Against Domestic Abuse

Detroit, MI -  AM WOMAN CENTER in unison with TellUsDetroit.com will host the “I AM WOMAN” Expo in recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Expo will bring together women from all backgrounds and ages from all over the Metro Detroit area for a day of enlightenment, empowerment, education, and inspiration.

This comprehensive, empowerment Expo will be held October 30, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Wayne County Community College, Downtown Campus located at 1001 W. Fort St., Detroit, MI. 48226 where more than 1,500 women are expected to attend.

Domestic Violence statistics are climbing at alarming rates. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence at least one in every four women have been physically abused or sexually assaulted during her lifetime. An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. On average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in this country every day.

“Being a domestic violence survivor I understand the emotions and needs that arise during those turbulent times. My overall goal is to create an environment where women can feed off one another’s strengths and positive energy. Ultimately fertilizing seeds of consciousness and allowing them to blossom. “We are our sisters keeper”, and it is our responsibility to expose our sisters to healthy options, resources, people, and products that will create a stronger foundation in which they can be proud of and build upon for generations to come,” says Marshell Lumas, Founder of the I AM WOMAN Expo and Special Events Coordinator for Tellusdetroit.com

The Expo will provide education and awareness, continental breakfast and lunch, free health screenings, a “real women like us” fashion show, Ruby Girl Teen Workshops, and resources and literature from a plethora of participating organizations. There will be interactive workshops led by community leaders and experts including Motivational Speaker, Monica Marie Jones, Five Time Author, Brook Blander, Dr. Bishop Corletta Vaughn, and more who will speak on a variety of topics surrounding healthy living for women.

Attendance is $10.00 and open to women of all ages. Men are also encouraged to participate. Parking is available on campus. For vendor tables or more please call Marshell Lumas at 313-740-8677 or Kendra Paige at 313-459-2435.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged and can be completed by visiting www.iamwomanonline.org.
