By Laydell Wood-Harper/Tell Us Detroit

DETROIT (Tell Us Det) - The Hartford Back to School Rally is all about Kids and learning. Nearly 1000 kids are expected to attend the annual Hartford Memorial Baptist Church back to school rally Saturday, August 25 from 9 am – 2 pm. DPS Emergency Manager, Roy Roberts is also expected to attend this annual community event.

The Rally is fun, it’s educational and it’s a family affair. Parents must attend the Rally with their children. This is the only Back to school event that encourages parents to attend workshops with their student to learn valuable information that will be helpful for the coming school year. Parents and students will have an exciting day of learning, and preparing for school while collecting valuable Tools for School and great prizes.

Get ready for an exciting day of learning new ways to make back to school more exciting this year. This Rally offers more than handing out school supplies to those in need. Hartford uses this opportunity to give back to the community in a big way…offering workshops that will help both students and parents get through this school year with special knowledge in several important categories.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Hartford to “Rally” around our young people as they go into a new school year,” said Curtis Kilpatrick, Hartford Director of T.R.U.T.H. Ministries. “We wish them well not only with words but in a tangible way with tools for school.”

The Informative Parent/Student Workshops include: “Healthy Eating, Healthy Living,” and
“Strategies For Struggling Students & Resources For Developing Good Citizens (Anti-Bully)” and more. The Workshops will be taught by trained professionals.

“Hartford has one of the biggest Back to School Rallies in the city,” comments Rev. Charles G. Adams, Pastor of Hartford Church. “Education is a priority at Hartford. We encourage our students all year long with special programs and special acknowledgments for their educational achievements. We also offer tutoring for all ages. We want to inspire and support our students in the community. These are very difficult times for everyone that puts a great deal of pressure on churches and charitable organizations to help more. Hartford is willing to help as many students as possible go back to school with a positive attitude. We are a giving church.”

Dr. Adams is one of the most prominent ministers in the United States; he has just completed a successful five year commitment at Harvard Divinity School. He is considered an expert in urban revitalization and leadership, and is well known for his role in the community economic development in northwest Detroit. New businesses continue to be added regularly.

The Hartford Back to School Rally helps parents and students get prepared for school while enjoying a fun filled day that offers; Back to School Supplies, Boys Haircuts, Girls Hair styling coupons and great prizes that include; Bikes and Computers. Parents must attend the Rally and Workshops with their child or children. Back to School Rally partners include Detroit Public Schools, and other local businesses.
