DETROIT RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO DEDICATE NEW ROUGE
PARK IN TOWN YOUTH CAMP THURSDAY, AUGUST 2
Would you like your kids to learn more about nature, but
don't have the time to leave the city? The Detroit
Recreation Department has opened the new Rouge Park In
Town Youth Camp to help Detroit youth experience the
peace and wonder of nature. The Recreation Department
will dedicate the camp on Thursday, August 2, at 2 p.m.

The Rouge Park In Town Youth Camp offers nature trails,
two nature observation areas, activity stations, and
signs to help identify birds, butterflies, trees, and
creatures in the park.
After experiencing the camp, visitors can enjoy the new
playground equipment, complete with bridges, a climbing
wall and protective rubber surface. While at the park,
visitors can also enjoy the new picnic shelter and
picnic area.
It is important for our young people to be able to
experience nature and develop an understanding of and
healthy respect for all living things," commented Loren
S. Jackson, Detroit Recreation Department Director.
"This In Town Camp allows us to work toward that goal
without traveling far from home.
The project was made possible through a grant from the
Department of Natural Resources for $407,000 and a
Detroit Recreation Department contribution of $143,000.
