REGISTER NOW FOR THE 23rd ANNUAL DETROIT SENIOR OLYMPICS

All
Detroit seniors 50 and older who have proudly stayed fit
or have a special skill or love for certain games, see
how you stack up against other seniors in the 23rd
annual Detroit Senior Olympics. If you register by May
31, registration is only $10. The Senior Olympics are
sponsored by the Detroit Recreation Department, Detroit
Area Agency on Aging, and the City of Detroit Senior
Citizens Department.
The Detroit Senior Olympics will take place June 18 -
22. The events include a variety of social activities
and competitive sports, including arts & crafts, baking,
basketball, bounce volleyball, bowling, cycling,
checkers, billiards, frisbee toss, golf, horseshoes,
in-line skating, softball, swimming, tennis, table
tennis, track events, and whist tournament. All
participants will receive a certificate. Event winners
will receive medals for first, second, and third place.

DETROIT RECREATION DEPARTMENT HAS A SUMMER OF FUN READY
FOR DETROIT RESIDENTS
The Detroit Recreation Department is gearing up for
another fun-filled summer season that will include day
camp, swimming pools, paddleboats, movies, music, and
more.
Paddleboats will make their debut this Memorial Day
weekend at the Flynn Pavilion on Belle Isle. For only $5
per person, you can enjoy a half-hour of paddling around
Lake Takoma.
During your visit to Belle Isle, take a ride on the
Giant Slide or catch Movies in the Park at the Belle
Isle Bandshell. "Over the Hedge" will be shown on July
12 and "Cars" on July 26.
If
you need to unwind on Sunday evening, head to the Belle
Isle Beach and enjoy Jazz on the Beach. The concert
series kicks off on Aug. 5 with Lisa Cunningham &
Enchanted followed by Brenda Joy & Posh! on Aug. 12,
Gerard Gibbs & R�Organyzed, co-sponsored by Wayne County
Parks, on Aug. 19, and concludes with Ed Stone on Aug.

As the summer heats up, stay cool at the Belle Isle
Water Slide, which opens on June 11. Enjoy the slide all
day for only $3. Beginning June 25, the Peterson
Playfield Water Spray (Greenfield and Curtis), Brennan
Pools, located at Rouge Park (Plymouth and Outer Dr.)
and Gatliff Pool, located at Palmer Park (Merrill
Plaisance off Seven Mile near Woodard), will be open
from noon to 8 p.m. daily.
