CELEBRATES
GROUNDBREAKING
OF
NEWEST
DEVELOPMENT
DETROIT,
MI - The
Detroit
Housing
Commission
celebrates
the
continued
rebirth
of
housing
in the
City of
Detroit
with a
special
groundbreaking
ceremony
for its
latest
development,
Cornerstone
Estates,
Wednesday
morning
on the
city's
west
side. The
development
is
located
at the
site of
the
former
Jeffries
East
Projects
- east
of the
Lodge
Freeway
on
Martin
Luther
King,
Jr.
Blvd.
and
Fourth
Street.
Community
leaders
from
throughout
metro
Detroit,
came to
hear
remarks
from
Detroit
Mayor
Dave
Bing and
HUD
Assistant
Secretary
for
Public
and
Indian
Housing
Sandra
B. Henriquez.
When
completed
in 2012,
the
Cornerstone
Estates
Housing
Development
will
include
180
housing
units
and a
community
building.
Several
of the
units
will
meet
Section
504
physical
accessibility
requirements.
Ranging
from one
to
four-bedroom
units,
Cornerstone
Estates
will
include:

One-bedroom
units -
Four in
total
•
Two-bedroom
units –
88 in
total
•
Three-bedroom
units –
68 in
total
•
Four-bedroom
units –
20 in
total
“This
site,
with its
ideal
location,
has
stood
vacant
for too
long,”
said
Detroit
Housing
Commission
Executive
Director
Eugene
Jones.
“We’re
excited
for what
Cornerstone
Estates
will
bring to
the
community
and to
the City
of
Detroit.
We look
forward
to
welcoming
the
families
that
will
soon
call the
Development
‘home.’”

The
Cornerstone
Estates
Housing
Development
will
include
180
housing
units
and a
community
building.

units
will
meet
Section
504
physical
accessibility
requirements.

The site
will be
redeveloped
with
low-rise,
new
construction
affordable
units
and
landscaped
open
space.
The new
site
configuration
will
include
all new
infrastructures
and is
designed
to fit
seamlessly
into the
fabric
of the
surrounding
neighborhoods.

The
units
will be
constructed
under
the HUD
sponsored
HOPE VI
Revitalization
Program,
administered
by the
Detroit
Housing
Commission.
The
ceremony
will be
followed
by a
brief
reception
and
breakfast
buffet.
