CITY
INVITES
APPLICATIONS
FOR
TEMPORARY
FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE
TO
PREVENT
INCREASE
IN
HOMELESSNESS
The City
of
Detroit
Planning
and
Development
Department
(PDD)
will
accept
applications
for the
Homelessness
Prevention
and
Rapid
Re-Housing
Program
(HPRP)
during a
Citywide
HPRP
Application
Intake
from 10
a.m.
– 2
p.m.,
Wednesday,
Oct. 7
in the
Riverview
Ballroom
at Cobo
Hall.
The
Citywide
HPRP
Application
Intake
is the
final
day for
qualified
applicants
who have
recently
become
homeless
or are
at risk
of
becoming
homeless,
to
submit
an HPRP
application
for
housing-related
financial
assistance.
HPRP
provides
temporary
financial
housing
assistance
to
low-income
applicants
who are
homeless
or would
be
homeless
without
this
particular
source
of
assistance.
“HPRP is
not for
the
chronically
homeless,
rather
for
individuals
and
families
who are
temporarily
dislocated
and are
able to
remain
stably
housed
after
receiving
financial
assistance
through
this
program,”
said
Constance
Bell,
PDD
Executive
Manager,
Neighborhood
Support
Services
Division.
“The
purpose
of this
funding
is to
prevent
people
from
losing
their
homes or
to
quickly
re-house
individuals
who have
recently
become
displaced
from
their
homes.”
Bell
stated
that
mortgage
assistance
is not
eligible
for
funding
through
this
program.
Applicants
are
encouraged
to pick
up their
applications
in
advance
of the
application
intake
at one
of six
Detroit
Neighborhood
City
Hall
offices
or HPRP
Service
Provider
locations.
HPRP
Service
Provider
staff
will
provide
assistance
to
applicants
with
completing
their
applications
in
accordance
with the
instructions
included
with the
application.
Applicants
who pick
up their
application
in
advance
should
mail it
to the
Planning
and
Development
Department,
65
Cadillac
Square,
Suite
1400,
Detroit,
MI
48226.
Applications
submitted
by mail
must be
postmarked
by
October
7.
Once
applications
are
reviewed,
only
applicants
eligible
for
funding
assistance
will
receive
notification
from a
service
provider.
