NEXT DETROIT
NEIGHBORHOOD INITIATIVE TO HOST HOMEOWNER�S FAIR ON
SATURDAY
DETROIT,
January 23, 2008�Detroit residents are invited to
participate in the NEXT Detroit Neighborhood Initiative
(NDNI) Homeowner�s Fair on Saturday, January 26 on the
campus of Marygrove College from 9 a.m. until noon
inside the Madame Cadillac Building.
During the FREE, three hour
Homeowner�s Fair, residents will be able to meet with
representatives from a plethora of homeowner assistance
organizations including (See attached document for
complete listing) :
1. Detroit Realtors Association: Seller/Buyer
Education
2. Detroit HOPE: Foreclosure Education
3. MSHDA: �Save The Dream� Homeownership Education
4. Detroit Police Department: Homeowner Neighborhood
Issues
5. Detroit Neighborhood City Halls: City Services
The NEXT Detroit Neighborhood Initiative was designed to
improve the quality of life in six communities�East
English Village, Osborn, North End, Brightmoor, 7
Mile-Livernois, and Grand River-Greenfield�over the next
five years by organizing city services around specific
neighborhood work plans.
The Homeowner�s Fair is a component of the neighborhood
work plan created by the residents of the 7
Mile/Livernois community and Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick�s
NDNI team.
Progress made in the six NDNI areas through December
2007 included:
●
7,974 tickets issued for blight, commercial business
code violations, and non-compliant rental properties.
●
850 trees planted and 750 dead trees removed.
●
1,750 tons of illegal dumping picked-up.
●
150 faded and unwanted signs taken down.
●
87 residents in Northend & Brightmoor received health
screenings, and 54 residents enrolled in the substance
abuse treatment program.
●
62 miles of streets/roads resurfaced
●
5 new businesses opened (Sherwood Gallery, Sew Fine,
Motor Scooter Shop, Papa Johns, and Mike�s Fresh Market)
