Detroit
Immigration
Task
Force,
co-chaired
by
Council
Member
Raquel
Castañeda-López
and
Council
Member
André
Spivey,
in
collaboration
with the
United
States
Citizenship
and
Immigration
Services
and the
International
Institute
of
Metropolitan
Detroit,
held a
Naturalization
Ceremony
in over
30 yeas.
Mayor
Mike
Duggan,
USCIS
Director
Mick
Dedvukaj,
Council
Member
Raquel
Castañeda-López
and
Wojciech
Zolnowski
of the
International
Institute
were all
in
attendence.
The
event
was a
part of
Immigrant
Heritage
Month
and the
Immigration
Task
Force’s
mission
of
promoting
a more
diverse,
inclusive,
global
city.
In honor
of
Immigrant
Heritage
Month,
U.S.
President
Barack
Obama
wants
Americans
to share
the
stories
of their
families'
immigrant
roots.
"We are
a nation
of
immigrants.
It's a
source
of
strength
and
something
we can
take
pride
in," he
said.
The
president
also
said,
"We
can't
just
celebrate
this
heritage,
we have
to
defend
it by
fixing
our
broken
immigration
system."
This
special
event
was held
at
Coleman
A. Young
Municipal
Center,
Erma L.
Henderson
Auditorium. |
