Court date set for man charged in shooting death of 3-year-old girl

DETROIT (Tell Us Det) - The preliminary examination in the case of Devin Taylor, who is charged in homicide of 3-year-old-girl in Detroit is now set for September 20, 2011, at 1:30 p.m., at 36th District Court.

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Devin Lamar Taylor, 21, of Detroit in connection with the July 10, 2011 homicide of 3-year-old Aarie Berry at approximately 9:40 p.m., in the 3100 block of Canton in Detroit.

Earlier in the day, there was an altercation and it is alleged that Taylor came back to Canton Street and fired multiple shots in retaliation. Aarie Berry was inside her home on Canton at the time she was fatally shot.

The police were called to the scene and observed the child with a gunshot wound to the head. She was conveyed to Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Taylor has been charged with First Degree Murder (Life without Parole), three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder (Life or any term of years), Discharge of a Firearm in a Building (4 years) and Felony Firearm.

"The facts in this case are a classic example of the truly innocent being literally gunned down by the truly ignorant," said Prosecutor Worthy.
