DETROIT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OFFERS EXPRESS SERVICE
Save Time ~ Save Money ~ Save Gas!

Starting June 16, the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) will introduce its new Express Service to provide a convenient, environmentally-friendly, and cost-effective way to travel during peak hours. The Express Service operates Monday through Friday at peak hours only from 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. (inbound service to downtown Detroit) and 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. (outbound service from downtown Detroit). Passengers may board and exit at all designated Express Service stops and all passenger-requested stops within the Central Business District.

“With rising gas prices and construction delays, DDOT’s Express Service is a great alternative,“ said DDOT Interim Director Lovevett Williams. “Express Service enhances DDOT’s regular service and is designed to reduce the travel time of bus-riding passengers.”

DDOT offers this premium service for a one-way, cash fare of $2 for all passengers; no reduced fare discounts apply. The Express Service routes are:
70 Express (Crosstown/eastern portion only) – departs from St. John’s Hospital and travels along East Warren to Woodward Avenue with the destination ending at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center

71 Express (Grand River) – departs from Grand River and Seven Mile and travels to downtown Detroit with the end destination at Jefferson and St. Antoine
72 Express (Dexter) – departs from Northland Center and travels the Dexter route into downtown Detroit with the end destination at Beaubien and Jefferson

73 Express (Woodward) – departs from the State Fairgrounds and travels to downtown Detroit with the end destination at Beaubien and Jefferson

74 Express (Gratiot) – departs from Eastland Center and travels to downtown Detroit with the end destination at Michigan and Third

“The public deserves a break, especially with gas prices rising beyond the $4 a gallon mark,” said Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. “Since these routes capture 33% of daily ridership, reduce travel time by 40 to 50 percent, and are the most traveled in the service area, we specifically targeted the customers’ best interest by focusing on convenience, money savings and time.”

DDOT is extending an introductory offer to passengers using the monthly, bi-weekly, and weekly GoPass fare cards. For a limited time only, no additional charge is required when using the monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly GoPass on Express Service routes. Fare cards may be purchased at Detroit-area CVS Pharmacy stores, Neighborhood City Halls, DDOT’s Web site at www.RideDetroitTransit.com, and other DDOT sales outlets.
Passengers using other fare mediums (regional pass, special services senior/disabled fare cards, student semester pass, and individual student and adult cards) or transfers will be required to pay an additional amount that equals the $2 base fare. Detailed information of fare and pass sale outlets are available on the Express Service route schedules and the June 2008 Rider Alert.
