Boyfriend Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Detroit Mother

DETROIT (Tell Us Det) - Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Lorenzo Franklin McNeil, 24 (2/16/90) in connection with the homicide of Charmanek Johnson , 31. The defendant and Ms. Johnson were boyfriend and girlfriend who sometimes lived together at her home in the 4030 block of Hazelwood. On April 21, 2014, the victim’s grandmother called the police to Ms. Johnson’s home because she had not heard from her granddaughter in three days.

When the police entered the home the victim was discovered dead in the upstairs of the home of multiple stab wounds. The victim’s 8 month old child was found in a crib upstairs suffering from dehydration and severe diaper rash. The child was taken to a local hospital and received treatment. The defendant is not the father of the child. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of McNeil on April 22, 2014.

McNeil has been charged with: Murder First Degree Murder; Child Abuse First Degree; Child Abandonment and Larceny in a Building. The Detroit Police Department has informed us that arraignment on the warrant will take place today or on Friday, April 25, 2014 , at 2:30 p.m. at 36th District Court. Please confirm this time with the court, in case the case is moved up for the morning arraignments.
