MAYOR KILPATRICK ENCOURAGES DETROIT'S OLDER CITIZENS TO ATTEND "SAFE SENIOR DAY"

Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick is encouraging the City's most esteemed citizens to attend "Safe Senior Day" on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers Rd. "Safe Senior Day" will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

"Safe Senior Day" was established to promote senior awareness in the community. The goal of the event is to bring seniors, law enforcement, agencies, and merchants together to help in the prevention and victimization of older citizens.

"Criminals prey on our older citizens because they assume they are an easy target, but 'Safe Senior Day' will help to empower our seniors so they are less likely to become the victim of a crime," said Mayor Kilpatrick. "Detroit's elder community should definitely take advantage of this opportunity to gain valuable knowledge about crime prevention
and emergency preparedness."

During the four-hour event, seniors will learn about was to detect telephone fraud; personal and home safety; emergency preparedness; medical prevention and safety. They will also have a chance to obtain
legal counsel regarding abuse and prevention; free photo I.D. cards.


Wayne County TRIAD, The MI Triad/MI Sheriff's Association, Northwest Activities Center, and Sun Valley Foods of Detroit sponsor "Senior Safe Day."
