CITY EMPLOYEES ASSIGNED TO CADILLAC TOWER SHOULD NOT REPORT TO WORK MONDAY JULY 7

DETROIT--Cadillac Tower this afternoon lost power to its primary and secondary transformers because of flooding in the basement do to the failure of sump pumps. City employees assigned to Cadillac Tower should not report to work on Monday, July 7. It has not been determined when power will be restored.

Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick this evening implemented Executive Order #7. This order is the policy dealing with service and time keeping policies during unusual operating conditions.

All city employees assigned to Cadillac Tower are relieved of duty Monday, July 7 and are allowed to use vacation or compensatory time, or receive no pay time during the period when Cadillac Tower will be closed. All employees involved in essential work who will be required to report to work on Monday will be notified by their supervisor.

Buildings & Safety Engineering Department Inspectors working from Cadillac Tower last week should report to the building at their regularly scheduled time. Public Works City Engineering Project Engineers and Construction Inspectors are to report to the lobby of Cadillac Tower at 7:30 a.m.

Cadillac Tower is owned by the Farbman Group. The City of Detroit leases space in the building.

On Saturday June 28 Mayor Kilpatrick had to announce plans to continue government operations as repairs are made to the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center (CAYMC) after power was lost do to three high performance transformers being zapped by lighting. CAYMC remains closed.

Primary city services such as Police, Fire, Water, Public Works, Recreation, Health, Department of Transportation, Public Lighting, Municipal Parking, People Mover, City Airport, and General Services will continue to operate without interruption.
