MAYOR KILPATRICK AND FIRST LADY INVITE FAMILIES TO ATTEND ANGELS NIGHT BOOO! BALL ON OCTOBER 20

DETROITMayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick wants thousands of Detroiters to participate in Angels Night, and to help him recruit volunteers, First Lady Carlita E. Kilpatrick is hosting the Angels Night Boooo! Ball on October 20, 4-8p.m. at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Community Arts Building.

I want all Detroit families to know that this is an event for them, said the First lady. As the Mayor works to create the NEXT Detroit, I am helping him by bringing a families first focus to city initiatives, which is the reason there will be several activities that parents and children can enjoy together.

Boooo! Ball activities will include:
1. Scary-Oke with Halloween themed music,
2. Monster Spa where parents receive mini-massages and manicures,
3. Fire Safety House and prevention demonstrations by the Detroit Fire Department,
4. Halloween candy scavenger hunt,
5. Create your own trick or treat bag, and
6. Putt Putt Golf.

The Boooo! Ball is a FREE event. During the four hours of family fun, the winners of the Angels Night oratorical and poster contest will be announced. Light food and refreshments will be served and there will be giveaways.

Angels Night is the single largest volunteer event in the country. On average, 60,000 people sign-up annually to turn on their porch lights, watch vacant structures, and patrol neighborhoods on October 29, 30, and 31.

Detroit has a very activity volunteer community, said Mayor Kilpatrick. Thanks to the commitment and energy of the hundreds of thousands of volunteers that have participated in Angels Night over the last six years, Detroit has set the standard for volunteerism in America.

Last year, the communitys participation resulted in the total number of fires over the three day period to be lower than the 40 fire incidents the fire department responds to daily.

Our volunteer recruitment effort is tireless, said Mayor Kilpatrick. We visit community meetings and churches, go door-to-door, do interviews on television and radio, and the Boooo! Ball is going to be a fun way for residents to get engaged in Angels Night.

To volunteer for Angels Night, people can call 313-224-4415, contact your local neighborhood city hall or log on to www.Angelsnight.org

After signing up to patrol, volunteers will report to one of the five Neighborhood City Hall (NCH) locations across the city starting at 6 p.m. to receive their patrol assignment, flashlight, and the flashing yellow light for their vehicle. The NCH locations are as follows:
