ANGELS NIGHT PATROLS START
MONDAY AT 6 PM
DETROITAngels
Night patrols continue today at 6 p.m. Volunteers
will report to one of the five Neighborhood City Hall
(NCH) locations across the city to receive their patrol
assignment, flashlight, and the flashing yellow light
for their vehicle.
Its time to
celebrate the single largest volunteer event in the
country, said Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick. This is
always an exciting time of the year for Detroiters. Its
no longer as much about protecting our city from burning
down, as it is a chance for the community to come
together and share their love for Detroit.
On average, 60,000 people sign-up annually to turn on
their porch lights, watch vacant structures, and patrol
neighborhoods on October 29, 30, and 31.
Our volunteer numbers have been strong again this
year, said Akua Porter, Director of the Mayors
Neighborhood City Halls. We wont have final numbers
until the end of three nights, but I believe we will at
least meet if not exceed last years totals.
Mayor Kilpatrick has called his administrations
volunteer recruitment efforts tireless. During the month
of October Administration officials visit community
meetings and churches, go door-to-door, and new this
year was the Boooo! Ball coordinated by First Lady
Carlita E. Kilpatrick.
At this late date, the best way to volunteer for Angels
Night would be to arrive at one of the five neighborhood
City Hall Offices at 6 p.m. on Oct. 29, 30, or 31,
however those interested can still register at
