Michigan Association for Female Entrepreneurs Host Entrepreneurial Training Camp for Girls

(Southfield, Michigan) Michigan Association for Female Entrepreneurs will host its Young Entrepreneurs BizCamp for girls age 11 to 18. The program will take place on Saturdays, June 14 – August 16, 2008 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield.

Funded by the Michigan Women’s Foundation, the Young Entrepreneurs BizCamp is a fun, hands-on educational program that guides young girls through the decision-making and planning process of starting a youth-owned business. BizCamp provides an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to develop a business idea, turn that idea into a business plan, and finally into a successful business venture. Students make real-world financial decisions about starting a business while practicing goal setting, negotiation, and verbal communication.

The Young Entrepreneurs BizCamp develops entrepreneurial philosophies and specific business skills that create value, encourage innovative and creative thinking, and empower youth to succeed. Students will learn valuable business concepts including marketing and advertising, business management, leadership, salesmanship, professional communication, supply and demand, international business, and global economics.

Students will enjoy a variety of hands-on projects and activities that are both fun and challenging. Some activities will include creating a business plan, creating a budget, analyzing a balance sheet, touring local businesses, field trips, innovative games, contests, group projects, and interactive sessions with prominent business and community leaders. The program also offer an optional business trip to Chicago where students will visit the Chicago Board of Trade, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, The Art Institute, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Sears Tower, and Museum of Science and Industry. At the end of the program, students will have an opportunity to compete for prizes and cash awards to fund their businesses.

An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 29th from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Lawrence Technological University located at 21000 West Ten Mile Road in Southfield. For
