Paulson, Snyder address Detroit Economic Club on Michigan's future business with China

DETROIT, MI (Tell Us Det) - On Monday afternoon Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson met with members of the Detroit Economic Club in the atrium at Ford Field.

The two were there to share their views on how foreign direct investment can help the greater Detroit region and the state of Michigan using Chinese investment.

They focused on ways that Michigan and the Detroit area can attract more international investment and increase partnerships with global companies and market participants.

Secretary Paulson said that government and business teaming up to work on skilled trades and Tech will create 1st rate jobs.

China has 9-7% annual growth, has new leadership, working on reform to be less reliant on exports and more focus on consumption.

At the DEC meeting Governor Snyder said, "We want the world to know Michigan is open for business."

The Secretary and Governor engaged in an informal conversation of how the manufacturing landscape is changing and how best practices are drawing these investments to Michigan.

The event is held in partnership with The Paulson Institute as part of its series of "American Competitiveness Dialogues" in the United States.

Paulson served as Treasury secretary from 2006 to 2009. He is chair of The Paulson Institute, a non-partisan institution working to advance global environmental protection and sustainable economic growth in the U.S. and China, while promoting broader understanding between the two countries.

In April, the Council of Great Lakes Governors announced a partnership with the Chicago-based institute to recruit foreign manufacturing investment to the region.
