Michigan's
future
business
with
China

Michigan
Governor
Rick
Snyder
and
former
U.S.
Treasury
Secretary
Henry
Paulson
met with
members
of the
Detroit
Economic
Club in
the
atrium
at Ford
Field.
The two
were
there to
share
their
views on
how
foreign
direct
investment
can help
the
greater
Detroit
region
and the
state of
Michigan
using
Chinese
investment.
They
focused
on ways
that
Michigan
and the
Detroit
area can
attract
more
international
investment
and
increase
partnerships
with
global
companies
and
market
participants.
Secretary
Paulson
said
that
government
and
business
teaming
up to
work on
skilled
trades
and Tech
will
create
1st rate
jobs.
China
has 9-7%
annual
growth,
has new
leadership,
working
on
reform
to be
less
reliant
on
exports
and more
focus on
consumption.
At the
DEC
meeting
Governor
Snyder
said,
"We want
the
world to
know
Michigan
is open
for
business."
The
Secretary
and
Governor
engaged
in an
informal
conversation
of how
the
manufacturing
landscape
is
changing
and how
best
practices
are
drawing
these
investments
to
Michigan.
The
event is
held in
partnership
with The
Paulson
Institute
as part
of its
series
of
"American
Competitiveness
Dialogues"
in the
United
States.
Paulson
served
as
Treasury
secretary
from
2006 to
2009. He
is chair
of The
Paulson
Institute,
a
non-partisan
institution
working
to
advance
global
environmental
protection
and
sustainable
economic
growth
in the
U.S. and
China,
while
promoting
broader
understanding
between
the two
countries.
In
April,
the
Council
of Great
Lakes
Governors
announced
a
partnership
with the
Chicago-based
institute
to
recruit
foreign
manufacturing
investment
to the
region.
