Business is Popping at Nino’s: Retailer unveils six new varieties of freshly popped popcorn

TROY, MI - Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace - the premier metro Detroit gourmet grocer – today formally unveiled its new popcorn line available in six flavors. Each bag is freshly popped to order at its Troy and Clinton Township stores and is genetically modified organism (GMO) free. The freshly popped corn will also be available at the company’s St. Clair Shores shop by mid-October.

The six flavors, created and perfected by Chef Pete Loren and his culinary team are:

Classic Cinema Style – Just like at the movies

Premium White Cheddar – Rich, yet subtle cheese flavor

Midway Mix – a familiar mix of three flavors: Caramel, White Cheddar and Cinema Style

Lite Pop With Sea Salt – Classic flavor, just lighter on the calories

Country Kettle – The perfect blend of sweet meets salty

Caramel Corn – The caramel taste you love, made with real butter

More flavors are being perfected in Nino’s test kitchen and expected to be unveiled in the months ahead.

The vintage inspired gourmet popping station, manned by specially trained staff is already a success.

“That luring aroma of movie theater popcorn hits the senses the moment customers walk in the store. People make an automatic beeline toward the popcorn station,” Loren said. “Our new gourmet popcorn is selling as fast we pop it.”

“Fall is the peak time for popcorn consumption,” said Kirk Taylor, Nino’s President. “And throughout the year, we’ve watched our popcorn sales increase by double-digits. There’s no doubt, Popcorn is trending.”

Americans consume 16 billion quarts of popped popcorn annually or 51 quarts per person, according to the Popcorn Board. Also, the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade lists gourmet popcorn as one of the top food trends. Popcorn is a whole grain food that is high in fiber, low in calories and contains magnesium, potassium, iron, calcium and zinc.

Nino’s freshly popped corn is available in two quart or two gallon sizes. Prices range from $1.99 to $7.99 per bag. For more information on Nino Salvaggio’s popcorn selections, please call (248) 879-7790.
