The Cruise Continues.... Quicken Loans Fuels Inaugural Detroit Car Week Sunday, 8/20-24 Hart Plaza - Downtown Detroit

DETROIT - The Woodward Dream Cruise continues the auto-centric celebration in the Motor City with the first annual Detroit Car Week. From Sunday, August 20th to Thursday, August 24th Hart Plaza will be transformed into a car enthusiast's dream, with plenty to do, see, and hear. With free entry and all ages welcome, Detroit Car Week boasts daily afternoon and evening car show sessions, musical entertainment and exhibitions by the Detroit Roller Derby, plenty of free family-friendly activities including race car simulators, slot cars, a pit stop challenge, nightly drive-in movies, and so much more! The event kicks off at noon on Sunday, August 20th and runs from 10:30am-10pm each subsequent event day. Detroit Car Week is fueled by Quicken Loans, presenting sponsor for the inaugural event, and is being organized by Ferndale-based event producers The Social Connection and Ultimate Fun Productions.

Wanna show off your ride? Both car clubs and individuals are welcome to park and showcase their classic, muscle, performance or other niche cars for either an individual session, for the full day or even for the duration of the event! Detroit Car Week will feature daily afternoon and evening car show sessions from 10:30am-2pm and 4-8pm. Everyone who registers will receive an inaugural event lanyard for themselves and up to 3 guests, and each car owner receives a complimentary Detroit Car Week branded t-shirt for participating.

Detroit Car Week is also bringing back the fondly remembered drive-in movie! From Sunday, August 20th to Wednesday, August 24th Detroit Car Week will present a different drive-in movie beginning at 8pm. Guests are encouraged to bring their classic cars, or lawn chairs, to watch the movie in a retro setting. For a true nostalgic experience, the Detroit Roller Derby girls will be acting as carhops during the movie, bringing beverages to the audience. Registration for car owners looking to participate in the car shows or drive-in is easy and free. Interested classic car owners need only fill out a simple form at DetroitCarWeek.com.

And what auto-themed event is complete without food trucks? Hungry attendees will gain access to the Motor City Mobile Food Court, consisting of Detroit’s most sought after food trucks, along with plenty of beverages to compliment. Detroit Car Week will feature a fully stocked bar, craft beer, pop & water, old fashioned milkshakes, lemonade, and everything in between.

“We’re proud to help fuel the inaugural Detroit Car Week. This event, along with other placemaking and activation investments, reflects the Family of Companies’ commitment to the civic and cultural projects that activate and animate the city,” said George Roberts, Quicken Loans Director of Community Activation. “The Woodward Dream Cruise is an iconic Detroit area event and we’re excited for it to have a strong presence downtown this year. Detroit Car Week is more than just a continuation of the Dream Cruise, it’s a celebration of the city’s rich automobile history and the arts, music, and food that make Detroit unique.”

Co-Producers Matt Flynn & Regina Stooco chose the location. "Located at the start of Woodward Avenue and Jefferson, Hart Plaza is the perfect location to bring the Cruise to Detroit. The City officials, DDP and the Parks & Recreation team have been very supportive in bringing this altogether. We are looking forward to seeing all of the cars on the plaza with the waterfront and the city as the background," stated Matt Flynn of Ultimate Fun Productions.

A portion of the proceeds from Detroit Car Week will benefit The Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) and the Community Health & Social Services (CHASS) of Southwest Detroit.
