ROYAL
OAK, MI
(Tell Us
Det) -
Royal
Oak is
playing
host
again to
Arts,
Beats &
Eats. It
all
began
with a
beautiful
sunny,
hot
August
day.
Vendors
were set
up with
their
wares
and
food.
People
began
coming
as soon
as it
opened
to get a
glimpse
at the
events
for this
year.
There
was
something
happening
at all
twenty
stages
beginning
at 11am
on
Friday.
From
Main St.
(East)
to
Washington
(West);
Lincoln
(South)
to
Second
(North)
stretch
amusement
rides,
arts,
food,
test car
drives,
lottery
and
health/fitness
activities
to peek
everyone’s
interest.
There is
more
space
this
year
between
vendors
to allow
easy
movement
and
eating
from one
place to
another.
Parking
can be
found in
lots all
around
Royal
Oak.
For the
first
time,
hearing-impaired
artists
are
being
showcased
with ASL
interpreters
to help
get
their
techniques
across
to
everyone.
It is
quite
interesting
to watch
the
artists
interact
with
everyone
who stop
to enjoy
the
works
that are
on
display.
Music to
entertain
a number
of
genres
is being
presented
on the
various
stages.
Friday
showcased
such
acts as
Detroit
Saxophone
Quartet,
Electronic
music, A
Night at
the
Tropicana
(Afro-Cuban),
Larry
Lee &
Back In
The Day,
Persuasion,
and many
more.
The kids
were not
left
out;
they
have
their
section
complete
with
rides
and
other
activities.
Saturday,
Sunday
and
Monday
promise
big fun
with a
complete
lineup
of rock,
funk,
jazz and
blues
including
some
local
talents
beginning
at 11am
until
9:30pm.
Fitness
enthusiasts
can get
their
workout
in by
running
3.1
miles
around
downtown
Royal
Oak.
Zumba
sessions
will
take
place
with
proceeds
going to
Karmanos
Cancer
Institute
as well
as Yoga
and
Jazzercise.
Many
stores
are
giving
discounts
to
shoppers.
The arts
are
being
displayed
in
glass,
metal,
fabric
and
digital
media.
It is
amazing
to see
the
creativity
of the
artists
as they
express
themselves
for our
enjoyment.
You may
find
just the
unique
piece to
complete
that
special
look you
are
trying
to
achieve.
If you
have
wanted
to
test-drive
the new
2013
Ford
Escape,
you can
have
that
opportunity.
The ease
and
smooth
handling
of the
new car
is
absolutely
wonderful.
Lounging
in the
comfortable
seats,
admiring
all the
technology
at your
fingertips
and
gliding
through
traffic
makes
you want
to keep
driving
beyond
the few
blocks.
The only
drawback
is the
short
trip
through
Royal
Oak.
Ending
the
evening
on that
note was
quite
enjoyable.
