#1 WITH A BULLET! DREAM CRUISE RELEASES NEW, OFFICIAL SONG!
Drive On! debuts from soon-to-be released ’08 Woodward
Dream Cruise CD
ROYAL
OAK, MI—Motor City artists, musicians and producers with
links to the early days of Motown and Detroit rock n’ roll,
have collaborated to create a new, original song—Drive
On!—for the Woodward Dream Cruise, as the group continues to
work on completion of an entire CD of official cruisin’
music.
Drive-On!, the CD’s title and first single, is the
brainchild of long-time Detroit performer, writer and
producer RG Dempster, on who’s Detroit Rocks! label the
tribute to classic cruisin’ appears. Dempster began his
musical career in the mid-60s, opening for legendary groups
the Yardbirds and the MC5 at the old Olympia Stadium in
Detroit.
Also involved with the project are two Motor City recording
legends—Johnny Trudell and Richard Becker. One of Berry
Gordy’s hand-picked, Motown Records musicians, Johnny
Trudell was a staple of Hitsville’s Studio A in the 60s as a
member of the Funk Brothers—the label’s official backup
band. Serving as lead trumpet player, Trudell played on more
number one hits than Elvis and the Beatles, recording with
such greats as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross,
Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, The Temptations, and The Four
Tops.
Engineer Richard Becker has been adeptly putting sound to
vinyl for over 40 years, including for Diana Ross, Mitch
Ryder, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Paul Anka
and Del Shannon. Drive-ON! Is being recorded at Becker’s Pac
3 Recording Studios in Dearborn, Michigan.
The Drive On! CD will feature original music written and
arranged by Dempster as well as covers of classic cruisin’
songs. The music will be available at select record outlets,
Dempster Designs on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak and online
at woodwarddreamcruise.com and detroitrocks.cc, where
downloads will also be available.
“These songs rock with the power, spirit and energy of
Detroit,” said RG Dempster. “Everyone associated with this
production have lived the sound and excitement that we are
recreating. We’re making classic memories that will last!”
Added Don Tanner, Executive Director, WDC, Inc., “While we
all have soundtracks indelibly etched into our memories, we
wanted to offer Dream Cruise lovers and participants an
opportunity for a shared, new musical experience—Drive
On!—to complement our common love of the automobile. Put it
on and turn it up!”
