Detroit Jazz Fest Announces
Final Lineup for the 2007 Event
Detroit�The 28th annual Detroit International Jazz Festival
celebrates the great musical legacies of Chicago and
Detroit. Billed as the Rumble in the Great Lakes, it�s a
friendly battle of musicians from the two cities, both
of which continue to be important hubs of jazz and
American Music.
The Rumble gets off to a rousing start with Detroit�s
own Regina Carter and Chicago�s Herbie Hancock on

The Detroit Jazz Fest is proud
to announce that Detroit-born violinist and recent
MacArthur Foundation �Genius Award� winner Regina Carter
named the festival�s first artist in residence.
In
celebration of its 28th season, Detroit Jazz Fest is
waging a friendly musical battle between Detroit and
Chicago. Billed as the Rumble in the Great Lakes, it
will feature artists whose roots and styles reflect the
culture of these two Mid-west music meccas.
The Rumble gets off to a rousing start with Detroit�s
own Regina Carter and Chicago�s Herbie Hancock on

Lineup and Special Features for 28th Annual Event
Weekend extravaganza will feature some of the Detroit
area�s great jazz and blues musicians
Marcus
Belgrave & the Detroit Experience, Larry McCray and The
Miracles are just a few of Detroit�s own who will be
featured at the 28th edition of the Detroit
International Jazz Festival (DJF) officials announced
today.
The Labor Day weekend event will present a strong
showing of Detroit�s most renowned musicians in the
areas of jazz, blues, Latin, Motown, funk and more with
close to 30 local acts in all playing in downtown

Detroit Jazz Fest announces
winners of the 2007 Jazz Guardian Award
Detroit�Festival
organizers recently announced Bill Foster and Yusef
Lateef Jazz Guardians of 2007.
The Jazz Guardian Award is an annual recognition of an
individual with Michigan ties who through advocacy,
teaching, philanthropy or musical achievement has made
an extraordinary contribution to the elevation and
perpetuation of jazz. The Detroit Jazz Fest advisory
committee identified a slate of non-musicians and
musicians and then vetted and selected the honorees.
